  c) Burlington County American Legion post held a meeting in July at the VFW post. Our post was not notified of the county’s meeting and did not have representation.

  b) Boys and Girls State: Terry Bothel will be leaving the Post for a new career opportunity. Looking for a new Boys and Girls State chairman.  Kevin Lowery a Boy State representative from Lenape high school was unable to attend this month’s meeting, but will try to make next months. Kevin would like to share experience and convey his appreciation.
   

a)      c)  Correspondence:                               

 i.            1-  The County Commander is soliciting donations, goal is to raise $3,000.00 for the Mission of Honor. Post 526 voted to donate          $100.00

     2-    There was a service held at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery for a veteran who resided in Maple Shade.  John Scannel was a big help in arranging for the service member burial.  Jim Kollasch, and a few other members were in attendance.

        3- Received per capita tax we owe $65.00.

  b) Mike Ryan continues to work on the gaming license for the Post.
  c) Membership: Currently 160 Active Members, 118 members have paid  2018 dues as of 30 November 2017
  d) The veteran's information conference held on November 1st in Westhampton was a success. Approximately 50 people attended.
  e) Christmas Dinner is scheduled for Tuesday December 5th at the Medford Country Club.
  f) There was an oratorical contest hosted at the VFW, and several post members attended. 12 candidates were recorded prior and their audio was reviewed by members.

New Business

IV. a) New for 2017. You are eligible for a $3,000. exemption on your Income Tax return if you are a military veteran who was honorable discharged or released under honorable circumstances from active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States on or any time before the last day of the tax year.  Your spouse or civil union partner is also eligible for an exemption if he/she is a veteran who was honorably discharged or released under honorable circumstances and you are filing a joint return.  This exemption is in addition to any other exemptions you are entitled to claim and is available on both resident and nonresident returns.  You cannot claim this exemption for a domestic partner or for your dependants.  You can certify for the exemption by sending your official documentation.  The link will be on the membership page or use the following:  http://www.state.nj.us/treasury/taxation/military/vetexemption.shtml

 

b) Boys and Girls State

i) The chair will be headed by Warren Herbst and Ed Hall. Warren is redesigning a standard prequestionnaire that is fillable.This form will be sent out electronically prior to the candidate interviews.

ii) Looking for volunteers to go on interviews at the schools.  Our AOR schools are Seneca, Shawnee, BCIT, Lenape, and Cherokee.  Interviews are ordinarily held during school hours.

iii) Female Post members are encouraged to participate if possible.

 

c) Disabled Veteran, Purple Heart Recipient Placards. Jersey law (N.J.S.A. 39:4-207.10) permits exemption from payment of municipal parking meter fees, for up to 24 hours, for disabled veterans and Purple Heart recipients under certain, specific circumstances. www.njmvc.gov or call 609-292-6500.

New Business

a) Received a Memorandum from P. B. Onderdonk, Jr. National Judge Advocate, in regards to the limitations on the American Legion becoming involved in partisan politics.  Memo covered the policy on displaying the emblem at political support rallies and accepting donations, both of which are prohibited.
  Received notice and blank applications for interested members to attend various leadership courses hosted by the New Jersey American Legion.
  Received a flyer for a "Stand Down" to be held in Atlantic City May 23, 10:00-15:00. Many free services for vets and support agencies will be on site.  Function will be held at the All Wars Memorial Museum, 1510 Adriatic Ave., Atlantic City, NJ.
  South Amboy Post 62 will be holding a golf outing to help rebuild their building after being destroyed during hurricane Sandy.  The date will be April 28th starting at 0800. $125, includes dinner or $60 for dinner only.  To be held at the Bunker Hill Golf Course.
  The county is holding their annual testimonial dinner commencing at    1200 March 10 at O' Connors in Mt. Holly.
  b)  Assistance:  Commander mention the Methodist Church in Vincentown has a food pantry that is open to all and any veterans who may be in need of assistance.  Please contact Commander Hicks for further information.
  c) Annual picnic is tentatively scheduled for some time in June.
  d) A veteran's fundraiser is being held by B&B Environmental Inc. 2127 B Route 206, Southampton, NJ, 08088. It will raise money for the Veterans home in Vineland, the home in Winslow, and the American Legion. They are asking for support on May n19 from  0900-1500.
  e) A DAV or Purple Heart recipient can get free parking at Municipal lots.
  f) Interviews for Boys & Girls are in full swing. The Girls State deadline is March 1.  The Post moved to pay $1300 for our  girl state candidates.  Also it was decided that candidates will pay the $50 entry/application fee.
  g) Next meeting to be held March 20, 2018.

e) Jeffery Hicks will be installed as the SAL NJ  Commander Friday JUne 8th.

 

f) Made a motion to pay for half the cost of an ad for the 100th anniversary program announcing Jeffery Hicks being installed as the SAL NJ State Commander $62.50.

 

g) SAL holding a raffle May 30th 0800. First Prize $3000, 2nd and 3rd $1,000. Tickets are $20.  Limited to 500 tickets sold.

 

h) National Department does not endorse cutting out the stars of retired American flags.

 

i) VFW Post 7677 will take donated service members flags and mount of the foyer of the post with a plaque.

 

j) Southampton solicit funds for flags on main street Vincentown.  No decision made.
