Overview of the Leadership Program

  

Post 526 has sponsored high school Junior delegates from surrounding high schools since it

began.  In 2015, our post sponsored a total of twenty-one delegates from five area schools

to these leadership programs.  We were particularly honored in 2013 to have one of

our delegates, Christopher Biehn from Shawnee High School, elected as the 2013 Boys

State Governor.  In 2016 Ellie Hood was of Cherokee High School was elected

Lieutenant Governor and Justin Tuman of Seneca High School was elected as Senate

Majority Leader.

 The American Legion Department of New Jersey, Scholarship,

 and John Casey Scholarship , Member Scholarship

Must be a descendant of an American Legion Member, in the 2017 graduating class,

and more requirements and use the scholarship for four consecutive years.

Department Americanism Coloring Contest

2018-19 Americanism Coloring Contest image is "The American Legion Honoring 100 years of Service".

/2019AmericanismColorContest-picture.pdf  The picture will be distributed in the 4th and 5th grades by the various Posts throughout the state.  The coloring

of the picture must be done from the students own hand and the coloring of the picture will be attested to by the student's teacher.  This must be in the Post hands no later than February 10, 2019. Eagle Scout of the Year

The scout who best meets the qualifications outlined in the application will be selected as

the  American Legion Scout of the Year by the National Americanism Commission.

Oratorical Contest

Safety Essay and Safety Poster Contests
 Safety Poster Contest for the physically and mentally disabled and handicapped.

This is a project of the Department Safety Committee to bring our challenged youth into the Department Safety activities. This project was approved by the Department at a Department meeting held on Saturday, August 18, 1990 at the War memorial Building in Trenton.
The contest is to be started in each participating school.
Safety Poster Contest Submissions for 2018-2019 school year:
All posters must be in the hands of the Post Chairman no later than January 16,2019.
The First Place Winner at the Post Level to the County by February 20, 2019.
The First Place winner at the County Level to the State Chairman no later than March 1,2019

Safety Essay Contest is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students in public, private and parochial schools throughout New Jersey.  The contestant is to be started in each participating school and must be in the hands of the POST no later than January 16, 2019.  The essay must touch on the subject "What safety Means to Me". Temporary Financial Assistance for Children: Eligibility for Temporary Financial Assistance is limited to minor children of veterans. The parent must have served at least one day of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States during one the following periods.  Find more information refer to:
