History

Post 526 is a relatively new post, being established near the turn of the millennium. It was established in honor of Guy W. Doron Sr., an Army veteran who had served in France during the First World War. Doron died on May 30, 1971, just after the annual Memorial Day parade on Main Street in Vincentown had ended in which he had been the grand marshal of that parade.

The post was established by Doran's Son, Guy Doron Jr. and a charter-signing ceremony was held on July 15,1999 at the Southampton Municipal Building on Route 206. The township committee gave the new founded post permission to use the Municipal Building for its initial meeting, which the post did through May, 2000.

Since then, the VFW of Medford has given the post authorization to use their facilities on Church Road. The post held its first meeting at the VFW on June 20, 2000. Our Post has nearly 150 paid up members though most do not attend regularly.

At the beginning of the twentieth-first century, the Medford American Legion post disbanded and gave funds, several M-1 rifles, grave markers and other items to our post, for which we are grateful.

Mark Simon was a lifetime member of the American Legion   and  a charter member of Post 526  when formed in 1950. He attended several meetings in each of his last years. Mark was a World War II veteran who served in the Merchant Marines He   recently received a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition by Congressman Tom MacArthur. His obituary is at the following link: https://www.perinchief.com/obituaries/Mark-Simons-3/#!/Obituary
